Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and Henry Chen, the independent developer who makes Jade (“we”, “us”). By downloading or using Jade you accept them, along with our Privacy Policy.

Jade is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These terms add to it; where the two conflict, Apple's standard agreement wins.

Everything you log by hand is free, for good. Jade+ is an optional subscription for the parts where Jade reads your cat for you: mood reading, the cat-voice diary, calorie estimates and a finer twin.

• Jade+ is an auto-renewable subscription, monthly or yearly, sold through the App Store. One subscription covers Jade on your iPhone and your Mac.
• The App Store shows the price, in your currency, before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
• The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the period ends. Renewal is charged within the 24 hours before the period ends.
• If a free trial is offered, the App Store shows it before you subscribe. The subscription is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before; any unused part of a trial ends when you buy a subscription.
• Manage or cancel it at any time in your Apple Account's subscription settings: see Apple's guide. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and Jade+ stays on until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting Jade or your Jade account doesn't cancel it.
• Apple handles every payment, so refunds are Apple's to give: ask Apple for a refund.
• On a new device, Restore Purchases on the Jade+ page brings Jade+ back for the same Apple Account.
• When a cat is shared, the Jade+ of the person who keeps it in their iCloud covers that cat for its other owners too, and calorie estimates for its carers.
• We may change what Jade+ includes or what it costs. A new price reaches an existing subscription only as the App Store allows: with notice, and your consent where the App Store asks for it.

Use Jade for yourself and the cats in your life, within the law. Please don't:

• upload photos or send messages that are illegal, hateful or harassing, or that you have no right to share;
• use friends, messages or invitations to spam, stalk or bother anyone;
• try to break, overload, reverse-engineer or get around the limits of Jade, its server or Jade+, except as the law allows.

Your photos, diary entries, records and messages stay yours. You give us only the permission needed to run the features you use: passing a photo on for a mood reading, say, or delivering a message to a friend. We don't claim your content and don't use it for anything else.

You're responsible for what you share, and for having the right to share it. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and remove what it posted.

Jade's mood readings, diary lines and calorie estimates are guesses, for fun and for your own notes. They aren't veterinary advice, a diagnosis or a feeding plan. If you're worried about your cat's health, weight or behaviour, see a vet.

Jade's name, the drawings of Jade the cat, the art, the pixel twins' style, the apps and this website are ours and protected by law. These terms give you the right to use the app, and no other right to them.

We work to keep Jade running well, but it's provided as it is and as available. Features may change, pause or end, and some need iCloud, an internet connection, a recent device or Apple Intelligence. If we end a paid feature for good, we'll say so in the app first.

As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability for any claim about Jade is limited to what you paid for Jade+ in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that the law says can't be taken away, such as the guarantees of consumer law where you live.

You can stop using Jade at any time: delete the app, and if you signed in, delete your account in Settings → Account. We may end these terms for an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks them. The parts that should outlast them, such as what you put in, Jade's own work and liability, do.

These terms are governed by the law of the place where Jade's developer is based, as shown on Jade's App Store listing, and disputes go to its courts. Where the law where you live gives you the right to its own rules or its own courts, that right stays.

We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. For a change that matters, we'll tell you in the app or in the release notes before it takes effect; using Jade after that means you accept the new terms.
